wtf It only responded to pressing 1 on the keyboard. Something responding to touching D-PAD left and right. There is an icon on screen registering that I am in fact pressing the A button. It's supposed to have controller support but the very first dialog prompt I can't figure out what to do to respond "OK" to the NPC. Subtitles are too fast / ahead of the voices. Also for the VR it looks like you'd have to basically buy the game again, it's a separate version. Yup, apparently nothing can be done other than lower the resolution. With nothing obvious in the settings to adjust, I Googled it. Got as far as the main menu - the text is so small that it's basically unreadable. I read this negative history on Rebirth and figured I might as well actually install it and try it out before others in the series as a starting point since I have no expectations. I have X Rebirth from the Fanatical Stand With Ukraine bundle (and several other from the X series from somewhere in the past). If you have skipped the initial release and all the drama, it might be a decent game to try out now.Īs for me: 10 years later I casually open a HB link, see X Rebirth flashed in front of me and that alone might turn me off on checking on what X4 has to offer. We may never know the truth, but the dry facts are that the game was over-hyped, under-delivered and had a shady backstory. Having even the credible suspect that the devs pivoted a console spin-off (which was fine, per se) as a PC release of the X franchise, marketing it as a natural sequel for AP, was the last straw. X was one of the games that defined the PC experience for the better and worse, much like Civilization etc. You have to understand that this was like ~10 years ago, and at that time console and PC were a world apart. The drama peaked when people started to piece together clues that pointed toward the possibility that Rebirth was mostly a rushed consoles exclusive that at some point was pivoted to a PC only release. The shitstorm that ensued on the forums (and every channel really) was a sight to behold. Bugs everywhere, pointless and half assed features and, crucially, nothing that made X our game that we knew and loved. On release, the game was a steaming pile of shit. piloting/owning one ship at time) were framed as the next best thing since sliced bread for the X playstyle. Aggressively so.Īfter so many hours spent on X3:AP, Rebirth was one of the few games that I actually ended up preordering (yeah I know.).ĭuring the devblog posts a lot of info on the game were left purposely vague, and the ones that made me (lot of us) raise an eyebrow more than once (e.g. Not necessarily the game per se, it's just not X. Oh it's also worth mentioning that AFAIK there is no VR support, which is a bummer for a space sim, but also kinda fitting for a game which major selling point dances vicariously along the line of a spreadsheet simulator. I haven't played X4 and I'm not sure if I want to buy this bundle. If you play X it's for the joy of entering a system and seeing your fleet patrolling or being able to finally build the manufacture stations in that strategic location etc. You can also build stations, connect them to cover a certain supply chain and use your own AI-managed fleet to perform trade routes.ĭogfight, mining, etc.is still present here, but done better in other games. Crucially, AFAIK this is the sole space game that allows you to disable ships, take over control of them and.easily program their AI to patrol, or follow a certain trade route, or escort other ships you own. X drops the multiplayer aspect in favour of letting the player having more impact on the whole universe. with one ship, EVE on people connections and emergent behaviour, SE on ship building/customisation with "voxel" parts, SC on a complete experience and NMS on exploration + base building. It fits very well a specific niche in the space sim games.
